Les Paul Guitar

One of the secrets to getting in the ballpark of that fabulous Beano sound is a Les Paul. Eric famously used a sunburst Standard to get that bluesy, aggressive tone.

Here are some of our favourites, with UK and USA links for your convenience.

SG

Early in 1967 Eric started using a Gibson SG. Like the Les Paul, SGs have powerful hum bucking pickups. The double cutaway style provides easy access to the high register.

Firebird

In the spring of 1968, Eric bought a Gibson Firebird. Its distinctive sound can be heard on the live tracks of  'Goodbye'. Super-cool and great to play.

335

The semi-acoustic ES 335 has long been a favourite style for blues players. Eric bought his first while still in the Yardbirds. He has used it extensively since then. Very versatile, great-sounding guitars.
