John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
London: Decca, 1966

Essential listening for students of the 1960s British Blues Boom.  This is the album that broke the rules and set the standard for electric blues guitar. Featuring two brilliant instrumentals, 'Hideaway' and 'Stepping Out' plus a selection of first-rate original songs and covers.

Cream

Straight out of the Bluesbreakers, Eric forms The Cream with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. 'Fresh Cream' features some sublime blues guitar. The 30w combo is gone and the amp of choice is now a 100w Marshall head paired with a 4x12 cab. Guitar heaven. From then on, it's pure brilliance all the way. My own favourite is 'Goodbye', the CD of which stays permanently in my car's player.
